Cricket: Kevin Pietersen Joins Surrey
Longtime England batsman Kevin Pietersen was released from the cricket team on Tuesday and has now joined Surrey for the rest of the county season.
Geoff Miller, the national selector of the England and Wales Cricket Board stated that Pietersen will be omitted from the upcoming Twenty20 international friendlies against Pakistan stating that Pietersen needs to get more cricket under his belt before the winter season.
Miller went on to say that Pietersen will have plenty of time during the rest of the county season to get prepared for the winter. ‘Kevin will be able to work on his game and get more time in the middle. He is a world class player. This way he can work on his batting and get back to the level of play that he has shown throughout his career’ stated Miller.
Pietersen was named the most valuable player of the Twently20 World Cup tournament earlier this year and had stated previously that he was done playing for the summer.
Pietersen, who made his debut with England back in 2004, went on to say that he was disappointed for being cut from the England side but would do everything that he could to get back to the squad. ‘I have no issue with the selectors omitting me from the team. Now I can work on my game and get ready for the winter’ stated Pietersen.
